Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this empirical research paper is to study the impact of night shift on the Leisure Time, Social Relationship and Social Commitment of employees working in the call center industry at Chennai. The paper aims to highlight the relationship between night shift and leisure time, social relationship and social commitment. Methods/ Analysis: The target sample size for the study is 190, but the legitimate samples were 168 and these were found to be valid for the study. In this study, the independent variables used are Night Shift Schedule and Night shift Challenges whereas the dependent variables are Leisure Time, Social Relationship and Social Commitment. CFA was run and the convergent validity as well as discriminant validity was found to be reliable and valid. Amos using SEM was used to bring out the relationship between variables. Findings: The SEM Model was found to be fit with all recommended values as per the requirements ensuring that there exists a relationship between night shift schedule and night shift challenges on the Leisure Time, Social relationship and Social commitment of the employees. Application/Improvement: This study is a path way for the organizations working in shift work to understand that Leisure time, Social relationship and Social commitment is an important part of an employee’s life. This study is a trend setter for future studies as there are very few articles on the impact of night shift on the social life of the employees.

Abstract

Objectives: The article uses a sample of 200 employees from the BPO industry in Chennai to find the impact of non-standard work schedules on the family life of employees comparing the employees based on their age, gender, Years married, Years in non-nonstandard schedule and Hierarchy. Method: Lickert scale analysis is used to collect data from the respondents and questions pertaining to demographic variables and non-standard schedule were queried to get information. The data collected for family life were based on questions pertaining to family responsibilities, marital life and growth of children. T-test and one way-Anova are the Statistical tools that are used for the analyses. Findings: The Findings suggest that the effect of non-standard schedules on demographic variables differed with age, gender, years married, years in nonstandard schedule and hierarchy. The effect of non-standard schedule on the family life differed significantly among the different groups. The effect was found to be more in the age groups of 46-55 years and above 55 years. The effect was more in the age groups of 46-55 years and above 55 years as the mean value is 85.4 and 76 respectively. The tests showed a significant difference between male and female as there was a significant mean difference of 7.1. The effect was more in the group where in the individuals were married for more than 7 Years and married for less than 1 year. There was no significant difference on the effect of non-standard schedule among the employee’s years in non-standard schedule and hierarchy however there was slight differences among the different groups. Application/Improvements: The study enables organizations to understand the problems faced by the employee of BPO working in the non-standard schedules. The study is an insight for the employers to know the effect of non-standard schedules across the different category of employees based on their age, gender, marital years, years in non-standard schedule and position. This study would in turn guide the organizations to bring about measures that could prevent the problems occurring due to shift work.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: Organizations are now realizing their responsibility towards the society and the environment. This research paper analyzes two dimensions of Corporate Social responsibilities and their effects on Brand Loyalty. To examine the mediating effect of Consumer Trust on the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)-Brand Loyalty relationship. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Philanthropic CSR and Economic CSR are taken as the independent variables, Brand Loyalty as the dependent variable and consumer trust as the mediating variable. A confirmatory factor analysis is used to test the constructs and the relationship between variables is established using a SEM model. The mediating effect is analyzed using Regression weights in SPSS.A sample of 240 consumers in a shopping mall is selected using Mall intercept survey. Findings: The finding reveals that the constructs are validated. Before the mediating variable enters there exist a direct effect of Economic CSR and indirect effect of philanthropic CSR on Brand Loyalty. After the mediating variable enters, the regressions weights are reduced and the beta value is significant with regards to Economic CSR. Hence there is a partial mediation of Consumer Trust on the Economic CSR and Brand Loyalty. It's found that Economic CSR has both direct and indirect effect on Brand Loyalty. There is a complete mediation of Consumer trust on Philanthropic CSR and Brand Loyalty as the regression weights are reduced and the beta value is not significant. Hence there is no direct effect of Philanthropic CSR on Brand loyalty. Application/Improvements: This paper highlights the effects of Consumer Trust as mediating variable on the CSR-Brand Loyalty relationship. If the firm does well to the society and to the environment, the customers are loyal to the organization and will have positive word of mouth.
